Training a boba team to make the same drink

A consistent drink depends on shared instructions and a chance to practice. Training works better when the person learning can see, measure, and repeat the actual task.

Demonstrate a complete drink

Walk through the cup size, ingredient identification, measured portions, mixing sequence, topping, and finish. Explain the reason for the sequence where it affects taste or workflow. Use the same tools that will be at the station during service.

Have the trainee make the recipe while describing the steps. This reveals unclear labels and assumptions that a demonstration alone can hide. Check the result against the written recipe rather than personal habit.

Practice the questions customers ask

Include sweetness choices, topping substitutions, and the process for finding current ingredient information. Staff should know when to check a label or ask a supervisor rather than guessing.

Rehearse a remake request and a sold-out item. A calm explanation and a clear next step can make a difficult moment easier for both the customer and the person taking the order.

Keep the training current

Update the instructions when a recipe, ingredient, or tool changes. Review the actual output of pumps and scoops so familiar equipment does not quietly introduce a different portion.

Use short follow-up practice during suitable periods. Training is easier to maintain as a routine than as a single opening-day event that everyone is expected to remember indefinitely.

Make it work for your station.
