Write recipe cards that survive a busy shift

A recipe card is a working tool. It should answer the questions that come up when an order arrives, without requiring the team to interpret a long paragraph.

Put quantities next to actions

List the cup size and the exact amounts of tea, milk, syrup, toppings, and ice. Use consistent units and specify whether a quantity is measured before or after preparation.

Describe the sequence in short steps. If pearls go into the cup before the drink is mixed, show that order clearly. Include the correct lid or seal and the finishing method.

Define the choices customers can make

Write separate approved adjustments for reduced sweetness, extra topping, or an alternative milk. Do not leave a vague instruction such as “less syrup” for staff to interpret differently.

Check ingredient and allergen information using current supplier labels and your handling procedures. Update the card when a supplied ingredient changes.

Keep one current version

Give each card a version label and a review date that reflects an actual review. Remove superseded copies from the station when a recipe changes.

Train with the physical tools used during service. Weigh pump outputs and scoop portions periodically so a written recipe and the drink in the cup continue to match.

Make it work for your station.
